IWLA Sustainability Council Tip of the Week: Green Tag, You’re It

green power lowGreen power is a marketing term for electricity that is partially or entirely generated from environmentally preferable renewable energy sources, such as solar, wind, geothermal, biomass, biogas, and low-impact hydro.

Purchasing Green Power does not mean changing your electricity provider. Green Power options such as Green Pricing and Green Tags allow customers to pay a premium on their bill to cover any extra cost of purchasing clean, sustainable energy that is generated off-site.

Partners in EPA’s voluntary Green Power Partnership purchase green power for a specified minimum portion of their electricity needs in return for EPA technical assistance and public recognition. The Green Power Partnership has more than 1300 Partners including Fortune 500 companies, government agencies, trade associations and universities — collectively purchasing billions of kilowatt hours of green power annually.
