U.S. Labor Secretary Resigns

After significant public pressure, Secretary Alexander Acosta of the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) resigned from his post on July 12th due to inquiries into a controversial plea deal he brokered during his time as a prosecutor. President Trump announced that Acosta would be replaced in an acting capacity by the Deputy Labor Secretary Patrick Pizzella. Pizzella is seen as a welcome pick to fill the position by the business community and is a veteran of the more recent Bush Administration Labor Department. The soon-to-be Acting Secretary is expected to keep up and potentially improve the pace at which the DOL moves forward on its pending regulatory agenda.
