On October 23, the House Education & Labor Committee’s Subcommittee on Health, Employment, Labor, and Pensions and Subcommittee on Workforce Protections held a hearing entitled “The Future of Work: Preserving Worker Protections in the Modern Economy”. The Democratic members of the committee focused mainly on what they viewed as issues related to the misclassification of employees to build support around legislation they believe will address their concerns, such as the Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO) Act (H.R.2747). Groups like the U.S. Chamber of Commerce urged the Committee to fully consider the impact that certain policies may have in disrupting or stifling the growth of different models of business.
