On February 12, IWLA, alongside 41 allied organizations such as the American Road & Transportation Builders Association, the Associated General Contractors or America, and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, sent a letter to Senate Leaders Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and Chuck Schumer (D-NY) asking them to consider legislation to reauthorize federal surface transportation programs, which are set to expire on September 30, 2020. One such proposal is S.2302, America’s Transportation Infrastructure Act (ATIA), which was approved unanimously by the Senate Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee last summer. Other Senate committees with jurisdiction over surface transportation reauthorization policy are still working to develop significant portions of the final reauthorization package, with the questions over revenue generation for these programs yet to be decided.
