May 20 the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, & Transportation approved several bills, including S.2894, the Federal Maritime Commission National Shipper Advisory Committee Act. S.2894 would establish a committee to advise the Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) on policies related to the competitiveness, reliability, integrity, and fairness of the international ocean freight delivery system.
The committee would consist of twenty-four expert members appointed by the FMC, with representation evenly split between entities that import cargo to and export cargo from the U.S. using ocean common carriers. The legislation is now pending before the full Senate for consideration.
