House to Vote on Mandatory Arbitration Legislation

The House of Representatives is expected to vote on H.R. 1423, the FAIR Act, this week after the Rules Committee released an announcement signaling that the legislation would be coming up for debate. The bill prevents arbitration provisions in private contracts. The legislation would overturn the longstanding precedent of arbitration being used as means of resolving disputes between businesses, consumers, and employees. While the bill may pass in a vote on the House floor, it has a very low likelihood of moving in the Republican-controlled Senate.
